此曲為有「鄉村音樂第一夫人 ( First Lady of Country Music ) 」稱號的Tammy Wynette由其1976的同名專輯中所釋出的單曲，在告示牌鄉村榜勇奪第1名，也是Wynette個人第15首的冠軍曲。

1966，24歲的Tammy Wynette獨自帶著3個孩子搬到了「鄉村音樂之都 – 田納西州的那許維爾 (Nashville)」，為的是想找唱片公司簽約，一圓自己成為鄉村歌星的夢。但在經過幾家唱片公司的試唱後均被「打槍」，之後來到了Epic唱片公司，製作人Billy Sherrill原本也只是想應付應付她，但當聽了Wynette試唱那首《Apartment No. 9》後，Sherrill決定和Wynette簽約。由此開始，Wynette之後在鄉村音樂界大放異彩，Sherrill當然是Wynette的「伯樂」和「貴人」。而此首《'Til I Can Make It on My Own》也是由Wynette和Sherrill及另位George Richey三人共同創作完成。
